Learn English in East Kent

East Kent is England’s gateway to and from Mainland Europe, as it is only a quick ferry or Channel Tunnel ride over from France, so we enjoy welcoming visitors from all over Europe.

This makes it a great place to come and learn or improve your English. There are lots of exciting things going on in Kent this summer to make a language holiday in 2012 even more worthwhile.

Canterbury is Kent’s most famous city and is a particularly popular place with European visitors. It is world renowned because of the famous cathedral and it has wonderful medieval streets to explore.

Canterbury is also the headquarters of the Concorde International language school. So those who choose to study here can be guaranteed of a quality English language course whilst also enjoying the city.

This year is a particularly exciting time to be in the UK because of the Olympics. The Olympic Torch Relay visits a lot of Kent and will go past all of Concorde International’s junior summer school centres in Canterbury, Folkestone, Rochester, Broadstairs and Ashford. So if you are a young person wanting to visit England to study English, now is a great time.

If you are in Canterbury on the 19th of July you will get the chance to see the Olympic Flame pass by! There are also lots of other exciting events going on in Canterbury this summer to enjoy.

If you like the seaside there are some great events happening at attractive seaside towns in Kent. Whitstable has its famous Oyster Festival in July, which celebrates the town’s community and heritage. Herne Bay also hosts a festival in August with music and events for all ages.

If you want to visit later in the year, Autumn is also a good time to learn English in Kent because there are several exciting events in Canterbury. The refurbished library and museum, called the Beaney Institute, is reopening in September.

There are also two international festivals in Canterbury towards the end of the year. The Canterbury Food & Drink Festival in September celebrates the diversity of food from across the UK and Europe.

Then in October the annual arts festival, The Canterbury Festival, brings in famous writers, broadcasters, historians and artists together to talk about and display their work.

So throughout 2012 there is something for everyone to see and enjoy in East Kent. It is a great place to learn English and explore the best of what England has to offer.
