Facebook Makes Mobile Payments Easier

15/06/2012

Facebook has introduced a new mobile payments system that makes buying things on your mobile via Facebook much easier.

Called ‘low friction character billing’, it is being made available in over 60 countries including the UK and US through a variety of mobile phone networks.

It works extremely simply; users who want to pay for goods via a mobile Facebook web app simply open the payment dialog and confirm their purchase with the buy button.

Facebook have been working on making purchases via mobile easier for some while. Facebook CTO Bret Taylor said they wanted to “improve the user and developer experience around operator billing that will eliminate the SMS verification for the vast majority of users.”

This is great news for users but also developers who can easily include the new payments system in their Facebook apps via the social network’s Payments API.
