Google is testing a new personlised search giving users the option to customise the search results to their particular requirements.

How will this affect Search Engine Optimisation?

Firstly it will make analysis and reporting of rankings data much harder as the results obtained will be influenced by previous searches. It is therefore very likely that companies and SEO companies working for them will see a different set of results to a more independent searcher.

Another example of the act of measurement affecting the results obtained (more usually this applies in Quantum theory..... and is known as Heisenberg's uncertainty principle). This means that organisations need to treat with great caution any ranking reports given.
