Facebook Ads Versus Twitter Ads

07/08/2012

Facebook ads are starting to rival Twitter ads in terms of successful online advertising. More people are now engaging with Facebook ads and they are starting to get a better click through rate than Twitter ads.

This is great news for Facebook as they were previously lagging behind Twitter with their PPC advertising. Facebook’s cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM) increased by 58 percent between the second quarter of 2011 and the second quarter of 2012.

This means Facebook ads are now working well for the company and they are starting to charge more for them. Facebook is doing particularly well with advertising engagement via mobile phones.

Even though browsing Facebook on mobiles has created potential usability issues, Facebook advertisements viewed on mobiles are proving popular.

This success is revealed through looking at Facebook’s mobile ad click-through rate which is at about 1.1 percent, more than four times higher than Twitter’s 0.266 mobile CTR. So Facebook’s move into PPC advertising is proving an increasingly lucrative move for the social media giant.
