LEJOG Mini Convoy 2012...Ready to Run!

19/06/2012

This year’s Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) Mini convoy are ready to set off next week on the annual fundraising drive through the length of Great Britain. There will be at least 12 Minis taking part in this year’s fundraising drive.

The Mini convoy travels from Lands End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland on a charity drive to raise money for a number of children’s charities, including Demelza House in Kent and Children’s Hospice South West.

The Mini convoy will start from Lands End on Monday 25th June and will arrive in John O’Groats on Friday 29th of June. LEJOG is organised by Linda and Terry Baker of the North Devon Mini Register, who also organise the famous Mini ‘Grand Tour’ each year.

Michelle Stone, a senior developer at Cornish WebServices, has been taking part since the year 2000 and has been leading the Mini convoy for a number of years now – alongside her Mum Carol as chief navigator!

Michelle’s own Mini – appropriately named Jock – is brightly decorated with sponsorship stickers and has a Union Jack roof and matching Mini trailer.  So Jock and the other Minis really do stand out as they drive by.

In fact many people come out to look at the magnificent Minis as they make their way through the country. They visit interesting places along the route including Blackpool and the picturesque Scottish Highlands.

Michelle is expecting to raise at least £1,000 this year and has already received generous sponsorship from Hornby and Fuji Film. Michelle and her Mum will donate all their sponsorship money to Demelza House this time, as it is their local charity in Kent.

Others taking part in the convoy will donate 50% of their sponsorship to Children’s Hospice South West and 50% to a charity of their choice.
