Excel Training Day for Staff

02/12/2010

As part of ongoing staff development Cornish WebServices had their own Excel training day for staff in their Canterbury office.  Despite the snow affecting many parts of Kent eight members of staff spent a whole day brushing up on their Excel skills.

Courses such as these are useful  for discovering short cuts within Excel which make data entry and manipulation faster. Also discovering some of the newer functionality and the possibilities available for advanced data analysis.

Excel is used extensively within a Search Marketing business for keyword analysis and manipulation, and it is not uncommon to have list of many thousands of keyword phrases which need sorting, filtering and analysing against numerous different metrics.  Many of our Search Marketing reports are also based on Excel spreadsheets, and as part of our ongoing work and website monitoring, data is regularly recorded into spreadsheet format to provide an audit trail of activities and results.

Some website development is also made easier with Excel, and an example would be ecommerce development which often uses large product sheets in Excel created and validated in Excel to upload large quantities of products into the shop. It is not practical to input many thousands of products by hand.

Keeping staff up to date through ongoing training in skills required for their jobs is an important part of maintaining a highly skilled workforce.

The onsite  course was provided Fairgold Training & Development, a certified Microsoft product training company, and was specifically tailored to the particular needs of our staff.
