What are 'session ids' ?
Session ids are long parameters you often see at the end of query URL's. They are or were most common on shopping carts and they indicate a session is being tracked via the URL rather than via a cookie (a small file on your computer).
How do session id's affect search engine Optimisation
Historically Google search engine has had a problem with query parameters in URL's. This is no longer the major issue it used to be, but in 2004-5 removing queries from URL's. was a major part of SEO work. Typically, now that most shopping carts have SEO friendly versions available, Google and other search robots are better able to trawl through the maze of query strings.
But session ids are a little different in that they do not represent different products, but different users often viewing the same page. This gives the problem of duplicate content. Duplicate content is bad with regards search engine Optimisation.
